The Beginning

VATCA (VATSIM Central America) was founded with a vision to bring realistic virtual air traffic control to the Central American region. What started as a small group of aviation enthusiasts has grown into a thriving community of controllers and pilots dedicated to excellence.

Our journey has been marked by continuous growth, innovation, and a commitment to providing the best possible experience for our members and visitors.

Timeline

Key milestones in our journey

2015

Foundation

VATCA was officially established as a division within VATSIM, covering air traffic control services for Central American countries. The founding members set up the initial infrastructure and began recruiting controllers.

2016

First Training Program

Launch of our comprehensive ATC training program, establishing standardized procedures and documentation for all rating levels. The first class of students graduated with their S1 ratings.

2017

Regional Expansion

Expanded coverage to include all major airports in Central America. Established partnerships with virtual airlines and other VATSIM divisions to increase traffic and collaboration.

2018

First Major Event

Successfully hosted our first major regional event, "Central America Tour," which attracted over 100 pilots and showcased the beauty of flying through Central American airspace.

2019

Website Redesign

Launched a completely redesigned website with improved resources, training materials, and member portal. Implemented new tools for scheduling and event management.

2020

Community Growth

Despite global challenges, VATCA saw significant growth in membership and activity. Adapted training methods to be more flexible and accessible, resulting in record numbers of new controllers.

2021

Advanced Training Initiative

Introduced advanced training programs for Center and Approach controllers. Developed specialized courses for complex airport operations and enhanced simulation scenarios.

2022

50+ Active Members

Reached a milestone of over 50 active controllers, providing consistent coverage across the region. Established monthly events program and strengthened ties with neighboring divisions.

2023

Technology Upgrade

Implemented new technologies including automated booking systems, real-time statistics dashboard, and integrated Discord bot for improved member communication and coordination.

2024

Streamer Program Launch

Launched the VATCA Streamer Program to increase visibility and engagement with the broader flight simulation community. Partnered with content creators to showcase Central American operations.

2025

Looking Forward

Continuing to innovate and grow, with plans for enhanced training programs, more frequent events, and expanded coverage. VATCA remains committed to providing world-class virtual ATC services in Central America.
